MODERN SHIPWRECK NEAR THE ISLET OF GREBENI
The remains of a modern shipwreck lie on the southeastern point of the islet of Grebeni in the maritime area of Vis at a depth of 52 to 54 meters. Archaeological surveys have determined that the ship in question used to be a wooden sailing vessel, most likely a brig dating to the 18th or 19th century. While its hull isn’t visible, the remains and position of onboard equipment, in this case the cannons, indicate that the ship was roughly 44 meters long. It was armed with 16 cannons, 14 were made of iron and 2 of bronze, both of which are today exhibited in a museum in Vis. Along with the cannons, five anchors, parts of mast fittings as well as other items from the ship’s inventory are visible on the seabed
