CROATIAN MARITIME MUSEUM IN SPLIT
The Croatian Maritime Museum was founded in 1925 and has since then continuously collected, preserved and presented the tangible and intangible maritime heritage of the Croatian Adriatic coast, from prehistory to the present day. In the part of the permanent display dedicated to merchant shipping, you can follow the development of ships, shipping and navigation from ancient times to the modern day. The museum keeps an ancient ceramic dolium vessel of impressive size, originally used to store food, from the Trstenik archaeological site in Kaštel Sućurac. The collection of underwater archeology consists of numerous finds of ancient anchors and amphorae from different sites, and many underwater localities are also presented through virtual reality presentation models (VR glasses, interactive tables). The Croatian Maritime Museum is, therefore, an ideal starting point for exploring the underwater heritage of Split-Dalmatia County.
